India’s AI Confidence Boom Comes With A Clear Warning Label From ACCA

A new ACCA report says AI is set to significantly reshape hiring and the nature of work in India, but insists that “human ownership” of decisions must remain non negotiable. Indian professionals are more confident about AI than their global peers, yet the study underlines that accountability, ethics and human judgement cannot be outsourced to algorithms. It is a story of optimism, tempered very deliberately with caution.

The research, drawing on views from finance and business professionals, finds Indian respondents notably upbeat about AI improving productivity, speeding recruitment and opening up new kinds of roles. At the same time, ACCA stresses that AI should be treated as a decision support system, not a decision maker. The human in the loop, it argues, is where responsibility, context and values sit.  

How AI Could Rewrite Hiring In India  

In recruitment, AI is expected to handle everything from CV screening to skills matching and initial assessments, making hiring cycles faster and more data driven. For a talent rich market like India, that could mean more efficient matching of candidates to roles and a sharper focus on skills rather than just pedigree. But ACCA flags the risk of bias being scaled through opaque models if organisations do not embed ethical checks and keep humans firmly in charge of final calls. 

Redesigning Work, Not Replacing Workers  

On the shop floor and in back offices, the report suggests AI will automate repetitive tasks, free up time for analysis and advisory work, and demand new capabilities in data, technology and cross functional collaboration. Indian respondents, more than many of their global peers, see this as an opportunity rather than a threat. Still, ACCA cautions that reskilling, transparent governance and clear lines of accountability must develop in parallel, so that when AI gets something wrong, everyone knows who is answerable and how to fix it.
