India's Bold Leap: ₹20,000 Crore Nuclear Energy Mission Targets 100 GW by 2047

In a groundbreaking announcement during the Union Budget 2025 presentation, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled a bold Nuclear Energy Mission aimed at achieving 100 gigawatts (GW) of nuclear power capacity by 2047. This initiative is pivotal for India's clean energy transition, emphasizing private sector involvement through amendments to key legislation. With a dedicated ₹20,000 crore allocated for research and development of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), the government plans to operationalize five indigenous reactors by 2033. This mission aligns with India's broader vision of sustainable energy and economic growth.
