India's Space Odyssey: Shukla's Historic Journey to the ISS

Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla of the Indian Air Force is set to make history as the first Indian astronaut to visit the International Space Station. Scheduled for May 2025, this mission is part of Axiom Space's Ax-4 program, which showcases India's growing role in global space exploration efforts.  

Shukla's mission marks him as the second Indian to travel to space, following Rakesh Sharma's iconic 1984 flight aboard a Soviet Soyuz spacecraft. The Ax-4 mission is a collaboration involving Axiom Space, NASA, and SpaceX, highlighting India's active participation in international space partnerships.  

He will join an international crew, including astronauts from the United States, Poland, and Hungary, aboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft. His time on the ISS will involve scientific experiments, spacecraft operations, and training in microgravity, offering valuable insights for India's Gaganyaan program, which is set to be the country's first indigenous crewed spaceflight mission.  

This mission represents a significant milestone in India's advancements in space technology, further solidifying its position as a key player in global space exploration.
