Korean Studies Thriving at Boston University

Boston University's Korean Language & Literature Program is undergoing a remarkable growth, with enrollment rising by 33% since 2019. Professor Yoon Sun Yang credits the revival to South Korea's cultural boom after democratization in the late 1980s. The program currently boasts a major that was introduced in fall 2023, which appeals to students who are interested in K-pop, international relations, and business. Faculty has been increased to include experts in premodern Korean literature and language teachers. A Korean history faculty member is planned to be added and a study abroad program in South Korea is planned to be initiated.
