In a major step toward strengthening women’s healthcare, the Maharashtra Public Health Department has rolled out specialized PCOD clinics at government-run hospitals. Expanding Healthcare Access

The clinics will operate at district hospitals, women’s hospitals, general hospitals, and sub-district hospitals with 100-bed capacity. Services include medical diagnosis, pathological testing, counseling, and lifestyle guidance. Gynaecologists posted at these hospitals will receive specialized training, while in facilities lacking full-time specialists, doctors appointed under the Indian Public Health Standards framework will manage care.

Holistic Approach To PCOD

The program goes beyond medical treatment by integrating mental health support, awareness campaigns, and lifestyle counseling. Women will receive guidance on diet, exercise, and stress management, helping them adopt preventive measures alongside medical interventions. The clinics will also run awareness drives to reduce stigma around reproductive health.

Monitoring And Implementation

Assistant Directors of Maternal Health have been appointed as nodal officers to oversee the program. A dedicated day will be fixed every fortnight for each hospital, with monthly reports submitted to the Minister of State for Health, Meghna Bordikar. The Maternal Health Cell will regularly review progress to ensure effective implementation.
