Why Delhi Metro Is Stepping Up  

In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to reduce petrol and diesel consumption amid elevated global crude prices, the Delhi government has rolled out a fuel-saving drive. As part of this, DMRC will add 24 extra train trips every Monday using six additional trains across key corridors, ensuring higher frequency during office hours and evening peaks. Officials have also indicated that extra services may be scheduled on other busy days if ridership surges.

From Private Cars To Public Transit  

The capital is branding Mondays as “Metro Monday”, nudging both citizens and government staff to leave their cars at home at least once a week. Alongside the Metro ramp-up, Delhi has tightened the use of official vehicles, expanded work-from-home options and promoted carpooling and electric vehicles to ease congestion and reduce fuel usage. The underlying goal is to shift mobility behaviour from car-dependent commuting to mass rapid transit and shared options.

What Commuters Can Expect On Metro Monday  

Commuters can expect shorter waiting times, less overcrowding on major lines and better last-mile connectivity as DMRC coordinates with feeder services and buses. Authorities are also deploying extra staff at busy stations, strengthening ticketing facilities and running awareness messages inside trains and on social media, positioning Delhi Metro as the city’s main mobility backbone during the fuel-conservation campaign.
