Bengaluru’s iconic Vidhana Soudha opened its doors to the public for the first time, allowing visitors to explore its architectural grandeur and historical significance through a guided heritage walk. The initiative, launched on June 1, aims to provide citizens with an immersive experience of Karnataka’s legislative seat.
Key Highlights of the Heritage Walk
- Over 100 visitors participated in the inaugural tour, which will now be conducted every Sunday and on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month
- The guided tour covers a 1.5-kilometer stretch within the Vidhana Soudha complex, lasting approximately 90 minutes
- Each tour group consists of 30 participants, accompanied by trained guides and security personnel
- The entry fee is set at 50 rupees per person, while students under the age of 16 can participate free of charge with mandatory registration
Historical and Architectural Significance
- Vidhana Soudha, built in the Neo-Dravidian architectural style, serves as Karnataka’s legislative headquarters
- The tour includes key landmarks such as the foundation stone laid by Jawaharlal Nehru in 1951 and the grand rosewood doors leading to the Legislative Assembly Hall
- Visitors gain insights into Karnataka’s governance, legislative processes, and the vision behind the building’s construction
