Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh has announced that cancer treatment expenses up to ₹10 lakh will now be covered under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana. The scheme, offering cashless treatment across government and empanelled private hospitals, aims to provide universal healthcare access to 65 lakh families, strengthening cancer care and prevention in the state.
In a major boost to public healthcare, Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh declared that cancer treatment up to ₹10 lakh will be included under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana (MMSY). The announcement was made during World Cancer Day at the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, New Chandigarh.
The minister highlighted that Punjab now has two dedicated cancer institutes Sangrur (150 beds) and New Chandigarh (300 beds) providing advanced care facilities. Singh emphasized the importance of prevention through healthy lifestyles, urging citizens to avoid processed foods, tobacco, and alcohol, while promoting yoga and nutritious diets.
The scheme, launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, ensures cashless treatment up to ₹10 lakh per family per year, covering over 2,500 medical procedures across government and empanelled private hospitals. This initiative is expected to benefit nearly three crore residents of Punjab.
