Oil marketing companies (OMCs) announced the increase without prior notice, updating rates overnight. The hike applies nationwide, affecting millions of households and businesses. In Mumbai, the price now stands at ₹912.50, ₹939 in Kolkata, and ₹928.50 in Chennai.
Reasons Behind The Increase
The escalation in West Asia, particularly the US-Israel strikes and Iran’s retaliation, has disrupted global energy markets. Brent crude prices surged to $87 per barrel, a 20.8% rise since late February. This geopolitical tension has directly impacted India’s import costs, leading to the steep LPG revision.
Impact On Consumers
Households will now pay significantly more for cooking gas, marking the steepest hike in nearly a year. Commercial users, including hotels and restaurants, face an even sharper increase of ₹115 per cylinder, raising operational costs. This is the first domestic LPG price hike since April 2025.
