Big changes are coming for HDFC Bank credit card holders from July 1, 2025, as the bank revises its charges and reward policies across key spending categories. The updates target high-value transactions in wallet loading, utility bill payments, online gaming, rent, and education, aiming for greater transparency and financial discipline.
Key Highlights:
Wallet Loading & Online Gaming: A 1% fee will be applied if your monthly spend on digital wallet loading or online skill-based gaming (e.g., Dream11, MPL) exceeds ₹10,000. The fee is capped at ₹4,999 per month, and no reward points will be earned on these transactions.
Utility Bill Payments: If your total monthly card spend crosses ₹50,000 (personal) or ₹75,000 (business), a 1% fee applies to all utility bill payments, also capped at ₹4,999. Insurance payments are excluded from this fee.
Rent, Fuel, and Education: The 1% fee on rent continues, with the same cap. For fuel, the charge applies only above certain thresholds. Education payments incur the fee only via third-party apps, not direct payments to institutions.
Reward Points: Insurance transactions will now have monthly caps on reward points based on card type, except for select premium cards and Marriot Bonvoy cards, which remain uncapped.
Outlook:
With these changes, HDFC Bank is encouraging mindful spending and digital transparency. Cardholders should review their monthly expenses and payment methods to avoid unexpected fees and maximize rewards under the new structure.
