The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several districts in Kerala, Karnataka, and Goa, warning of extremely heavy rainfall over the next few days. The advisory, effective until June 18, urges residents to prepare for possible flooding and travel disruptions.

Kerala is expected to see the most intense rainfall, with Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod set to receive over 20 cm of rain in 24 hours. Coastal areas face strong winds reaching 50-60 kmph, raising concerns about high waves and possible sea flooding. Authorities have advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea.

In Karnataka and Goa, heavy showers have already led to school closures in vulnerable districts. Officials warn that low-lying areas may experience waterlogging and landslides, urging residents to stay alert.

Elsewhere, Uttarakhand remains under an orange alert, with forecasts predicting a week-long spell of torrential rain. Chhattisgarh and Odisha could also see thunderstorms and strong winds in the coming days.

Disaster response teams are on standby, and authorities are asking people to monitor official updates and take precautions where necessary.
