The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a venue swap for two key Test matches in India’s upcoming home season. Kolkata’s Eden Gardens and Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium will exchange their allocated fixtures for the series against West Indies and South Africa. The decision was made considering air pollution concerns in Delhi during mid-November, which previously affected international matches.

Schedule Adjustments And Key Changes

- Delhi was originally set to host the first Test against South Africa from November 14-18 but will now host the second Test against West Indies starting October 10.
- Kolkata will take over the first Test against South Africa, scheduled from November 14-18.
- The swap was influenced by air quality concerns in Delhi, which have historically impacted player conditions during matches.
- India’s home season begins with two World Test Championship (WTC) matches against West Indies, starting October 2 in Ahmedabad, followed by the Delhi Test.
- The South Africa series will feature two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20 Internationals across various venues.

Impact Of The Venue Swap

The decision to swap venues was based on historical air quality data, which indicated that pollution levels in Delhi during mid-November could pose health risks to players. In previous instances, international teams have faced difficulties playing in the city due to poor air conditions, prompting the BCCI to take preventive measures.

Complete Series Schedule

- The first Test against West Indies will be played in Ahmedabad from October 2-6, followed by the second Test in Delhi from October 10-14.
- The South Africa series will begin with the first Test in Kolkata from November 14-18, followed by the second Test in Guwahati from November 22-26.
- ODIs will be held in Ranchi (November 30), Raipur (December 3), and Visakhapatnam (December 6).
- The five-match T20I series will take place in Cuttack (December 9), New Chandigarh (December 11), Dharamsala (December 14), Lucknow (December 17), and Ahmedabad (December 19).

Looking Ahead

The upcoming home season promises intense cricketing action, with India set to host two major teams in multi-format series. The venue swap ensures optimal playing conditions while maintaining the integrity of the schedule. Fans can look forward to competitive matches as India prepares to take on West Indies and South Africa in a packed cricketing calendar.
