Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd has announced the filing of an appeal against a recent Goods and Services Tax (GST) order, with the quantum of claims amounting to ₹39 million. The dispute centers on input tax credit (ITC) discrepancies identified by tax authorities for the fiscal year 2017-18.

Key Highlights:
  • The company received an order from the GST Appellate Authority and Joint Commissioner of State Tax, Indore, which partially disallowed input tax credit claimed by Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd for FY 2017-18.
  • As a result of this order, a tax demand of approximately ₹15.7 million and a penalty of about ₹1.57 million were levied, bringing the total disputed amount to nearly ₹39 million.
  • Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd asserts it possesses all relevant records to substantiate its claim for the disputed ITC and has decided to challenge the order by filing an appeal before the GST Tribunal.
The company has clarified that, based on its current assessment, the GST order and the related financial demand are not expected to have any material impact on its financials, operations, or other business activities.
This appeal follows a series of similar disputes in recent years, where Kansai Nerolac has consistently maintained its position and provided documentation to support its claims.

The company’s management remains confident in its legal position and is actively pursuing all available remedies under the law.
