State's Commitment towards Healthcare Revolution Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma committed the state's healthcare system to revolution with world-class medical treatment being made available within Meghalaya itself. Speaking at the first-ever Health Summit in Shillong, he reaffirmed that no citizen of the state requires going outside the state for treatment. The government is eager to position Meghalaya as a regional healthcare hub and attract patients from the neighboring states and countries.
Key Investments and Policy Initiatives
Meghalaya today allocates 8% of its total budget to healthcare, the highest among all Indian states.
The government launched a number of initiatives to improve infrastructure, human resources, and technology.
Over 500 doctor vacancies were filled within three months by the Meghalaya Medical Services Recruitment Board.
Appointment letters were handed over to 164 staff nurses, 78 Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), and 181 AYUSH experts under the National AYUSH Mission.
Digital Transformation and Healthcare Accessibility
The government has automated medicine supply chains so that it is monitored in real time and there is continuous availability of essential drugs.
ASHA workers' benefits, which were being delayed due to paperwork, are now cleared within seven days through a digital platform.
Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs), and Civil Hospitals have been greatly upgraded.
Future Roadmap and Stakeholder Coordination The summit also focused on public-private coordination, with discussion of improving healthcare infrastructure and leveraging technology for improved service delivery. The Chief Minister once again reiterated that healthcare is not an individual endeavor, urging stakeholders to come together for the makeover.
