As the calendar turns over to July, Indian banking clients in various cities must prepare for a string of local holidays that will shut banking business for a couple of weeks. From religious holidays to cultural festivals, the June 30 to July 6 period finds a patchwork of holidays in Mizoram, Tripura, and Jammu & Kashmir.
Closure Points
Banks will be closed for three days in several places due to Remna Ni, Kharchi Puja, and Guru Hargobind Ji's Birthday.
These are state holidays, so the closures won't be uniform across all states.
Online banking, ATM, and mobile banking will still function at full capacity.
City-Wise Holiday Breakdown
June 30 (Monday) – Aizawl, Mizoram
Remna Ni banks closed in remembrance of the Mizoram Peace Accord of 1986.
July 3 (Thursday) – Agartala, Tripura
Closure for Kharchi Puja, a century-old festival in which the fourteen Tripuri ancestral deities are worshipped.
July 5 (Saturday) – Jammu and Srinagar
Banks were shut on Guru Hargobind Ji's Birthday, the sixth Sikh Guru.
Weekend Watch
July 6 (Sunday) – All Indian banks will remain closed as per the weekly holiday schedule.
July 5 (Saturday) – Banks will be open in all other places (except Srinagar and Jammu), as today is the first Saturday of the month.
What's Still Open
Digital banking facilities like NEFT, RTGS, UPI, and mobile banking will be fully functional without any hiccup.
Customers will also still enjoy ATM withdrawals, account services, and card support.
Planning Tip
If you have in-person banking chores planned, it's a good idea to check on holiday hours for your local branch and get the essentials done before the closings occur.
