As the 151st Kentucky Derby draws near, everyone is watching Churchill Downs-not only for the roar of hooves, but the rumble of the weather. With rain clouds on the horizon and a wet track threatening to upset the race, fans and gamblers alike are asking: Will the legendary Run for the Roses be washed away, or will the magic of Derby Day pierce the storm? Here's what you must know to be one step ahead of the weather and witness the awe-inspiring spectacle, come rain or shine.

Trackside Tidbits:

Rain has been a steady friend at Churchill Downs today, with predictions indicating a 50–75% chance of showers and temperatures ranging in the low-to-mid 60s. Thunderstorms rolled through Louisville Friday evening, making the track officially "sloppy" and the grounds soft, but the show must go on-no cancellation is imminent, as only extreme weather conditions would stop the race.

The National Weather Service and meteorologists indicate that rain and muddy conditions are probable but not severe storms at race time. There is a chance of a temporary dry period near the 6:57 p.m. ET post time, but the track will still be wet, which will affect the race pace and betting odds.

Wet weather has altered the betting odds, with horses that have records on a wet surface gaining favor. Favorites Journalism, Sovereignty, and Sandman are in question as gamblers seek so-called "mudders" to deal with the wet track.

Derby celebrations remain unaffected by the rain-enthusiasts dressed in high-hats and rain ponchos still celebrate, with celebrities and politicians being part of the crowd. The festive atmosphere continues to be charged, rain or shine.

Umbrella Alert: Take the umbrella home! Umbrellas are not allowed in the facility at Churchill Downs. Fans are asked to bring clear, foldable ponchos to cover their Derby attire in case of rain.

The Derby spirit is unstoppable: "If you're surrounded by the right crowd and soaking in the atmosphere, the rain doesn't faze you at all," said one long-time fan.
