India is making significant strides in its artificial intelligence (AI) journey with the IndiaAI Mission, which has now surpassed an impressive 34,000 GPUs. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced this milestone, which is poised to boost India’s goal of becoming a global AI leader by making high-performance computing accessible to startups, researchers, and businesses throughout the country.

Unprecedented GPU Growth: The IndiaAI Mission has successfully onboarded over 34,000 GPUs, with an additional 16,000 units added in this latest phase. This expansion features state-of-the-art hardware from industry giants like Nvidia (H100, B200, H200, L40S), AMD (MI300X, MI325X), Intel Gaudi, and AWS Inferentia 2.
Robust Cloud Infrastructure: Seven major Cloud Service Providers—Cyfuture India, Ishan Infotech, Netmagic (NTT GDC India), Sify Digital Services, Vensysco Technologies, Locuz Enterprise Solutions, and Yotta Data Services—have been selected to provide scalable and affordable AI computing power across the nation.
Homegrown AI Models: The government has chosen three new startups—Soket AI, Gnani AI, and Gan AI—to create indigenous foundation models, joining Sarvam AI, which was selected earlier. These models are designed to meet India’s specific linguistic, cultural, and sectoral needs.
Open-Source and Inclusive Access: The mission prioritizes open-source foundational models and broad access to AI tools, ensuring that innovation is available to all developers and innovators, not just a select few.
Affordable Compute Access: Eligible users can benefit from high-performance AI computing at up to 40% lower costs, thanks to government subsidies and a coupon-based system.
AI Kosh and Data Repository: More than 367 datasets have been uploaded to the AI Kosh platform, creating a valuable repository of Indian data to support research and innovation.
Global Leadership Aspirations: The government is targeting a top-five global ranking for India’s AI ecosystem, with a focus on scalable, multilingual, and affordable solutions tailored for emerging markets.
