The Uttar Pradesh state government has crafted a visionary AYUSH policy to make the state a national hub for traditional medicine, well-being infrastructure, and private investment. While presiding over a high-level review meeting, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid out a strong roadmap to enhance AYUSH institutions—Ayurveda, Unani, and Homoeopathy—in all divisions with a strong thrust of private investment, and revolutionizing healthcare delivery.
Key Highlights
Integrated AYUSH Colleges in All Divisions: The state will set up integrated AYUSH colleges in all divisions, providing Ayurveda, Unani, and Homoeopathy on the same campus to enhance education and health delivery.
Compulsory Naturopathy and Yoga Centres: Naturopathy and Yoga Centres will form an integral part of all AYUSH institutions, focusing on preventive healthcare and holistic wellness.
Expansion of Health Infrastructure: Health and wellness centres will be established in all districts, either governmental or Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), which will offer quality healthcare in urban and rural areas.
Private Sector Investment Boost: The policy provides incentives such as exemption of stamp duty, subsidized land, and speedy clearances to attract the private players, with a focus on establishing super-specialty and general hospitals in the state.
Employment and Skill Development: The policy obliges hospitals to give preference in hiring local professionals, linking medical and nursing colleges with new health centers to provide jobs and bridge skill gaps.
International Standards and Quality: The government will rigorously assess private AYUSH colleges and hospitals in terms of infrastructure and staff quality, and promote Panchakarma therapy and scientific studies on traditional medicine.
Industry Association: MoUs will be signed with large Ayurvedic medicine manufacturers like Dabur, Baidyanath, and Patanjali to ensure a steady supply of key medicines.
AYUSH University and Monitoring: The AYUSH University will be expedited, and ongoing monitoring will make more than 4,000 state AYUSH institutions more efficient.
The Road Ahead
The government highlighted that the policy is a paradigm shift and Uttar Pradesh will be a wellness tourism, traditional medicine, and inclusive healthcare destination. With robust private sector investment and focus on sustainable and equitable development, the state will be a model for others to follow.
