Paw-hibited: India Leashes 8 Dog Breeds in Nationwide Ban

In an important decision made yesterday, the Indian government has decided to ban eight dog breeds all over the country. The breeds that have been banned are as follows: Pitbulls, Mastiffs, American Bulldogs, Wolf Hybrids, Cane Corso, Kangal, Akita and Rottweiler. This decision comes in view of the rising public safety concerns and aggression associated with the breeds. The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying has indicated that keeping pets of those breeds should not be given any license or breeding permission, with an aim to promote responsible pet ownership and to ensure ethical breeding practices. Those who have them in possession would be required to get them registered with the authorities and take full responsibility for them. The order is with immediate effect and does not allow the importation, breeding, and sale of these animals.
