Pearson Fights Unconscious Bias in English Testing through #PTEforFairness Campaign

Pearson has initiated its #PTEforFairness campaign for the Test of English (PTE) that responds to unconscious bias in language assessment. The campaign, starring Vicky Kaushal of Bollywood, raises questions about how personal appearance, accents, and culture can result in biased scores through stereotypes. Recent research indicated 62% Indian test-takers are apprehensive about accent impact, while 74% have concerns regarding impact due to their appearance. PTE's technology of AI identifies more than 125 accents, grading the candidates just based on linguistic skills. The initiative is promoting impartiality and free-from-prejudice assessments of English-speaking capabilities, helping global mobility as well as workplace prospects for hundreds of deserving men and women.
