The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) minutes and bulletin, noting that India’s forex reserves hit a record $725.73 billion. Growth prospects have brightened considerably since December 2025, while inflation remains benign and near target. Officials emphasized resilience, favorable external outlook, and prudent monetary stance.

India’s economic outlook continues to strengthen, according to the RBI’s latest MPC minutes and bulletin. Members highlighted that growth prospects are looking up, supported by robust industrial activity, strong bank credit growth, and favorable external conditions following recent trade agreements with the US and EU.

MPC member Singh noted that while growth prospects have improved, the inflation outlook remains broadly unchanged, staying near the target. Member Kumar added that the economic outlook has brightened considerably since the December 2025 meeting, citing improved oil supply prospects from Venezuela and Iran, which are expected to keep prices in check.

Governor Shaktikanta Das confirmed that headline inflation is projected at 2.1% for FY2025-26, while Deputy Governor Gupta stressed that another rate cut is not warranted at this stage, given the favorable growth-inflation mix.

The bulletin reported that foreign portfolio investments and the Indian rupee staged a comeback following trade deals, while high-frequency indicators of industrial activity remained strong in January. Liquidity conditions were restored in February through accelerated government spending and RBI measures.

Bond yields showed moderate tightness, with the 10-year benchmark closing at 6.7214%, slightly higher than the previous 6.6780%.
