SACHET: India’s Emergency Alert System That Reaches Every Phone

The platform strengthens India’s disaster preparedness by combining technology, scale, and accessibility to protect millions of citizens during emergencies.  

What Is SACHET  

SACHET (System for Advanced Communication and Holistic Emergency Transmission) is a nationwide alert system that warns citizens about natural disasters, extreme weather, industrial hazards, and man-made emergencies. It was officially launched in 2026 after successful nationwide testing, where millions of phones received loud siren-like alerts.  

How It Works  

SACHET uses cell broadcast technology, which differs from regular SMS. Alerts appear as loud, unavoidable notifications that demand immediate attention. Messages are geo-targeted, reaching only those in affected areas, and are delivered in multiple Indian languages. Importantly, the system does not require internet access, ensuring coverage even in remote regions.  

Coverage And Reach  

The system is operational across all 36 states and Union Territories. Since its rollout, SACHET has delivered billions of alerts covering cyclones, floods, earthquakes, and chemical hazards. Citizens can also access updates through the dedicated SACHET mobile app, which provides weather forecasts and localized warnings.
