SAIL to Increase Rourkela Steel Plant Capacity to 9 MT by 2030

State-owned Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) is going to expand the capacity of its Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) by over two times to 9 million tonnes per year till 2030 at an investment of Rs 30,000 crore. The expansion is intended to increase supplies to defense, oil & gas, and auto sectors. The project will have an area of 1,200 acres and involve new plants like a raw material handling plant and a new blast furnace. The increased capacity will go a long way in adding to SAIL's overall target of production at 35 million tonnes per annum by the year 2030. The initiative is a part of SAIL's growth strategy to reinforce its position in the steel sector.
