Focused Rollout: The program will target 12 districts, including Tiruvallur, in the first phase with a view to covering the entire state later. The emphasis is on early diagnosis of cervical, breast, and colorectal cancers, which are among the most common in Tamil Nadu.
Organised Approach: In contrast to earlier opportunistic screenings, this program establishes a registry of eligible patients, issues personal screening invitations, and monitors data for early follow-up and treatment. This system is taking best-practice methods from around the world to Tamil Nadu's public health system.
Capacity Building: Health service providers and administrators are being provided with high-level clinical training, backed by international players such as JICA. Training is being provided in oncology, pathology, and gastroenterology so that screening and treatment of high standards are delivered.
Community Mobilization: The program involves strong information, education, and communication (IEC) campaigns to promote cancer awareness, promote participation, and eliminate myths, particularly in rural settings.
Integrated Services: Screening will be accessible at more than 2,500 government health facilities, with referral systems to ensure suspected cases are treated by specialists promptly.
Strategic Impact: With 82,000 new cancer cases diagnosed in 2023, Tamil Nadu's proactive and structured strategy seeks to lower late-stage detection and cancer death rates, serving as an example for other states.

This first-of-its-kind initiative puts Tamil Nadu at the vanguard of India's fight against cancer, seeking a healthier tomorrow through early intervention and community-based care.
