The marquee adjustment for next year's event is the addition of a Thursday night opening match, a first in the competition's rich history.

The tournament gets underway on Thursday, February 5, 2026, with a blockbuster clash between France and England at Twickenham, pitting the champions against one of their toughest rivals in a championship that's all about embracing innovation. The change is part of an overall reorganization, designed to improve the viewing experience and cater for global audiences.

The new format features matches more evenly spread across each round, with players having more rest days and a more spectator-friendly fixture list.
