Nippon India Mutual Fund recently declared a bold plan to double the number of investors from its existing 2 crore by spreading its wings in smaller Indian cities and towns. With 2 crore investors currently, the fund house plans to achieve 4–5 crore investors in the next three to five years, with a thrust on financial inclusion and penetration in non-metro markets. 

Growth Drivers

The company has clocked a 27% year-over-year growth in assets under management (AUM) at ₹5.63 lakh crore in FY25, beating the industry average.

Eastern India has been a growth driver, with Nippon India's AUM in the region growing by 55%—substantially ahead of the industry's 38%—and retail AUM in the East rising by 29% over three years.

Urban areas such as Kolkata, Patna, and Ranchi are in the van, recording three-year SIP growth rates of 170%, 159%, and 162% respectively, well ahead of the national average.

Strategic Focus

The fund house is focusing on simplicity and long-term investor participation, putting more emphasis on existing schemes and systematic investment plans (SIPs) than regular new fund launches.

With 269 branches in India, Nippon India has built a strong presence in 50 locations in 11 eastern states and has reached a "triple milestone" of ₹50,000 crore AUM, 50 lakh investor folios, and 50 physical touchpoints in FY25.

Future Outlook

Nippon India's strategy rests on higher investor education, awareness, and a transition from unorganized savings to formal investment channels, particularly in tier-II and tier-III cities.

The company's retail growth leadership, particularly in underpenetrated markets, makes it a leader in India's mutual fund revolution.
