Southwest Airlines is setting up a Global Innovation Centre in Hyderabad, marking a major vote of confidence in India’s aviation-tech and digital talent ecosystem. The centre will support the US carrier’s global business strategy through technology, data and operations-led innovation out of Telangana’s capital.

Announced after a high-level meeting between Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Southwest’s senior leadership at the state Secretariat, the move further cements Hyderabad’s status as a preferred global capability hub for aviation, aerospace and enterprise technology.

Strategic Role Of The Hyderabad Centre

The Global Innovation Centre is expected to focus on digital platforms, customer experience, data analytics and operational efficiency for Southwest’s worldwide network. By tapping Hyderabad’s deep IT talent pool and GCC ecosystem, the airline aims to accelerate its technology roadmap and long-term transformation agenda.

Leadership And Government Backing

The delegation to Hyderabad included Lauren Woods, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer; Tom Merritt, Chief Technology Officer; Jason Shyung, Head of Legal Counsel; and Sarthak Brahma from HEX Advisory Group, who met CM Revanth Reddy and minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy. The state has framed the deal as aligned with its “Telangana Rising 2047” vision to reach a USD 1 trillion economy by 2034 and USD 3 trillion by 2047.

Boost For Hyderabad’s Tech And Aviation Ecosystem

Southwest joins a growing list of global majors using Hyderabad as a base for aviation tech, AI, and digital operations, alongside players like Boeing and Collins Aerospace. The airline has reportedly secured premium office space at Salarpuria Sattva Knowledge City in the HITEC City corridor, reinforcing the cluster’s status as a high-end GCC hub.
