The Five-Day Myth: Uncovering the Truth Behind Bank Working Hours
Recent news stating that Indian banks will implement a five-day workweek from April 2025 has been refuted as fake. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has officially declared the news as fake news. The PIB Fact Check states that there is no new RBI regulation requiring banks to follow a five-day work schedule. The existing banking trend of working on the first, third, and fifth Saturdays of every month continues as is. No formal notification from the RBI about altering bank business hours has been given. Although there have been ongoing discussions between the RBI and the Indian Banking Association (IBA) regarding implementing a possible five-day workweek, no official decision has been taken. Bank unions continue to press for a shorter workweek to enhance work-life balance and be on par with international banking standards. For the meantime, customers may look forward to banks continuing with their present business hours.
