The Maha Kumbh Metamorphosis: Transforming a City Back to Nature
The 45-day Maha Kumbh 2025 has ended, leaving behind an enormous task of demolishing the temporary city on 4,000 hectares of land. More than 10,000 labourers are employed in dismantling over 1 lakh tents, 1.5 lakh toilets, and sprawling infrastructure such as pontoon bridges and power supply lines. The Uttar Pradesh government is targeting a return of the floodplains by March 20, meeting environmental norms. The process of dismantling is done by several departments and in a tight schedule so that the site is restored to its natural form before the monsoon.
