The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recommended auctioning approximately 3000 MHz of millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum to bolster 5G services. The auction will include spectrum in the 37-37.5 GHz and 37.5-40 GHz bands. This initiative aims to enhance 5G network infrastructure, facilitating faster mobile connections and supporting applications like IoT and smart cities. TRAI has set the reserve price for the 37-40 GHz bands at INR59.8 million (about US$686,000) per MHz, which is 14% cheaper compared to the 26 GHz spectrum auctioned in 2022.
