A Blockbuster Start On The Jammu–Srinagar Route  

Launched into regular service on May 2, the two Vande Bharat pairs on the Jammu–Srinagar route have together carried nearly 45,000 passengers by May 11, with the figure now comfortably past that mark as bookings remain strong. Daily ridership has frequently approached full capacity, with several days crossing the 5,000-passenger mark across both directions.  

Speed, Comfort And Connectivity Gains  

Running with 20 coaches and completing the roughly 266–269 km journey in under five hours, the Vande Bharat has sharply cut travel time between Jammu and Srinagar. Railway officials say passengers are responding to faster connectivity, modern interiors, better seating and catering, as well as the convenience of more direct services that reduce dependence on road travel through difficult terrain.

The strong response comes after the completion of the full Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla rail link, hailed as a transformational project for the region. Officials indicate that on days when both Vande Bharat pairs run, demand consistently reaches near-capacity levels, underlining how tourism, business travel and local mobility are all benefiting from the new service.
