Returning to Cannes for the second consecutive year as L'Oreal Paris's global ambassador, Alia Bhatt chose poetry over convention for her debut look at the 79th edition, appearing at the Hôtel Martinez in a gown that blurred the line between wearable fashion and fine art.

The Gown And Its Story

The full-circle ball gown, created by Yash Patil's label That Antique Piece, drew inspiration from 1950s silhouettes featuring a structured corset-style bodice, delicate spaghetti straps, a sweetheart neckline and a voluminous skirt in muted sage-green with botanical embroidery.

Artist Basuri Chokshi hand-painted the skirt as an homage to the French Riviera's dreamy landscapes washes of pastel green, blue, lavender and hints of yellow that resemble an Impressionist garden painting in motion.

Hidden inside the gown was a message stitched by designer Yash Patil: "To Cannes With Love ABK" initials referring to Alia Bhatt Kapoor, her name after marriage to Ranbir Kapoor, turning a couture moment into an intimate personal statement.
