India's leading fire safety advocacy group, Beyond Carlton, is spearheading a crucial initiative to enhance fire safety measures nationwide. In their latest report, released on February 21, 2025, the organization urges for a thorough verification of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) fire accident data. This proactive approach aims to ensure the accuracy of reported declines in fire incidents, from 22,788 in 1996 to 7,566 in 2022. Beyond Carlton recommends cross-referencing with hospital records, fire department data, and burns registries to create a more comprehensive picture of fire safety progress in India.
