Chess Legend's Dilemma: Anand Exits Freestyle Tour Over FIDE Role, Says Co-founder

Five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand has withdrawn from the prestigious Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour after accepting a position as FIDE Deputy President. Freestyle Chess co-founder Jan Henric Buettner revealed that while Anand initially accepted the wild card invitation enthusiastically, his new FIDE role complicated matters. The withdrawal comes amid tensions between FIDE and Freestyle Chess, with Anand's protégé Gukesh still set to participate. Uzbek prodigy Javokhir Sindarov will replace Anand at the upcoming German event starting February 7.
