City of Joy Gets Wings: Kolkata's Airport Metro Link Takes Shape

Kolkata is on the threshold of a transportation revolution with its maiden metro connection to the airport almost at hand. The 7 km route from Noapara to Jai Hind (Airport) station is part of Phase I expansion of the Yellow Line. While initially targeted to be commissioned in March 2025, the project is now set to go operational by June or July, subject to the inspection of the Commissioner of Railway Safety in April. This metro connectivity will drastically cut travel time from the airport to Esplanade to 30 minutes, making the city's connections more better. The new line will have four stations: Noapara, Dum Dum Cantonment, Jessore Road, and Jai Hind Biman Bandar. Commuters will have unbroken access to different sections of Kolkata through different metro lines once the line goes into operation, cutting down the dependence on private cars and taxis.
