Conservation Efforts Show Promise as Human-Elephant Conflicts Decline in Assam

Recent data from Assam's Dhanshiri Wildlife Division reveals a significant decrease in human fatalities due to elephant encounters. The number of deaths dropped from 17 last year to 7 this year, highlighting the success of collaborative conservation efforts. Divisional Forest Officer Mustafa Ali Ahmed credits this improvement to increased awareness campaigns, regular community meetings, and innovative solutions like solar fences implemented by NGOs such as Aaranyak. These initiatives demonstrate a positive shift towards human-elephant coexistence, balancing wildlife protection with community safety in one of India's key elephant habitats.
