David Miller’s Heroic Century in Vain as New Zealand Defeat South Africa in Champions Trophy 2025 Semi-Final

 

New Zealand sensationally achieved a 50-run triumph over South Africa, booking their berth in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 finals against India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, 9th of March. An otherwise commendable hundred from David Miller could not help, as the Proteas succumbed while chasing 363. In the first innings, New Zealand posted 362 runs for 6 wickets, thanks to the most formidable knock from their top order. The South African side, responding, struggled with its batting early, as Ryan Rickelton and Temba Bavuma cobbled together scores of 17 and 56, respectively. The innings seemed shaky, but Rassie van der Dussen offered the elusive glimmer of hope with 69 runs. Yet, there Always was a premature end of that chapter, with wickets tumbling at crucial moments. While on the other hand, David Miller stood tall and played a terrific hand of 100 runs of 67 balls. He kept South Africa's hopes alive single-handedly, but the support from the lower order was dearly missed. It was at last 312 runs for nine wickets at the end of their innings at 50 overs, but still ran short of the target. Matt Henry 2 for 43, Mitchell Santner 3 for 43 led the New Zealand attack which was invariably too strong for the Proteas. The Black Caps reached into the final flame with this victory, after seeking the maiden title in the Champions Trophy.
