State-run oil marketing companies have been gradually passing through higher global crude prices and currency-related pressures. The current Delhi pump rates are closing in on the psychologically important ₹100 mark for petrol again, while diesel  the workhorse fuel for transport and industry continues to creep higher, squeezing transporters, small businesses and city commuters alike.

Dealers in the capital indicate that effective from early morning revision, petrol is now priced around ₹99.51 per litre and diesel near ₹92.49 per litre. The 0.87 paise and 0.91 paise hikes, though modest on a single-day basis, come on top of earlier increases and can compound meaningfully over a month for regular users.  

Why Fuel Prices Are Rising Again  

The latest spike is being linked to firm global crude oil prices, supply concerns and the need for oil marketing companies to protect marketing margins. With central and state taxes making up a large part of retail fuel prices, room for immediate tax relief remains limited unless policymakers choose to intervene to contain inflation and public anger.
