Heatwave Versus Downpour: India Splits Between Scorching North And Soaked South

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has flagged “very hot” conditions over the northern plains, including Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, while southern states such as Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu continue to report showers and thundercloud activity under active weather systems.

Mercury Soars In North India

In Delhi, the maximum temperature today is expected to touch around 45°C, after the city recently clocked one of its hottest May days in nearly two years. Similar heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are being reported or forecast over parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, with real-feel temperatures even higher.

Rain-Soaked South Sees Relief

In contrast, southern and coastal belts are seeing bouts of rain, cloud cover and gusty winds, bringing relative relief from peak summer heat. IMD projections indicate continued rain and thunderstorm activity over parts of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and adjoining regions over the next couple of days.

Authorities are urging residents in heatwave-hit areas to avoid direct sun exposure during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated and limit outdoor work.
