Delhi Takes Off: Airport on Course to Become Global Hub in 2 Years

Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar stated that Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) is expected to become one of the world's top hubs in the next two years. The scheme is driven by a massive expansion and upgrading of international connectivity, particularly with North America and Europe. IGIA currently serves over 21.6 million international passengers a year and is expecting to surpass the 24 million mark within 2027. Already, the airport has surpassed Singapore's Changi Airport for European and North American flights with 280 weekly flights to the two destinations.

 

Improvements include the introduction of "slot banks" to enhance connections between flights and ongoing Terminal 1 modernization, set to resume full operations on April 15
