Diagnosis Reimagined: Himachal’s Rs 207.50 Crore Push to Modernize Healthcare

In a big push to overhaul public health infrastructure, the government of Himachal Pradesh has announced an investment of Rs 207.50 crore in improving the diagnostic facilities in the state. The scheme is a big component of the overall Rs 606.70 crore Vyavastha Parivartan scheme for systemic overhaul in the delivery of healthcare.

Key Highlights

The Health Department has prepared a detailed plan under the supervision of CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu

Investment in used diagnostic machines, which are all 15–20 years of age

These new centers are equipped with 1.5 Tesla and 3 Tesla high-resolution MRI machines at five of the biggest institutions: IGMC Shimla, SLBSGMC Mandi, Dr. YSPGMC Nahan, GMC Chamba, and Atal Institute of Medical Super Speciality Chamiyana

Each of the seven medical schools would be equipped with two advanced CT scanners, five mobile DR machines, two ceiling-mounted DR X-ray units, two advanced ultrasound machines with colour Doppler, one mammography unit, and one PACS system

Kamla Nehru Hospital at Shimla would also possess an independent PACS unit

There will be four portable ultrasound machines and a single 3D-capable radiology server for every college.

Enhance the quality of diagnosis and minimize patient referral by the state

Enhance medical education and training using simulation modules

Complete all personnel and equipment gaps in operating and diagnosis departments

They encompass cancer care, electronic health, and critical care services

This step towards modernization is likely to enhance the levels and availability of healthcare in Himachal Pradesh considerably.
