Election Commission To Deploy Central Forces In West Bengal From March 1

In preparation for the upcoming Assembly elections, the ECI will begin deploying central forces across West Bengal from March 1. The first phase will see 240 companies of CAPF arriving, followed by another 240 companies on March 10. This early deployment underscores the Commission’s proactive approach to maintaining peace and security in a state often marred by electoral violence.  

The forces will be responsible for securing polling stations, electronic voting machines (EVMs), strong rooms, and counting centers. The decision comes amid heightened concerns over voter intimidation and political clashes. By ensuring a strong security presence, the ECI aims to instill confidence among voters and reinforce the integrity of the electoral process.
