EPFO Turns the Tables: From Red Tape to Rapid Relief for Crores of Indian Workers

Key Points

Record Speed: Between April 1 and June 5, 2025, EPFO settled 68.96 lakh claims in three days, a steep increase compared to previous years. In 2024-25, 39% of the claims (2.34 crore) were settled within three days.

Automated Settlements: Every claim admissible for withdrawal up to ₹1 lakh is settled automatically today—illness, education, housing, and marriage advances. Automation decreases the role of human intervention, leading to faster and precise processing.

Hike Cap on the Horizon: EPFO will hike the auto claim settlement cap to ₹5 lakh from ₹1 lakh, subject to final approval. This will allow more members to avail speedy and trouble-free settlements.

EPFO 3.0 Launch: The new EPFO 3.0 platform, to be launched in June 2025, will facilitate ATM-like withdrawals, online correction of accounts, OTP-based authentication, and improved grievance redressal. All of this will facilitate access to money to the extent of a regular bank transaction.

Simplification of Procedure: Rectification of member information is now facilitated digitally for Aadhaar-verified accounts, and over 99% of claims are made online, putting an end to visiting offices.

Future Vision: EPFO's future vision is to disburse all pension and insurance claims within 72 hours, thus streamlining benefits to members even further.

This revision will enhance the living comfort of crores of our members," said Sumita Dawra, Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment. Through these reforms, EPFO is establishing new standards for government service effectiveness and the potential of providing faster access to money and a smooth digital experience to tens of millions of Indian workers.
