Exams Under Watch: Police Deployed as West Bengal Class 12 Students Take Tests Amid Protests

The West Bengal Higher Secondary exams are starting today in the backdrop of increased security arrangements made by the police. More than 5 lakh students will take the exams, which will continue till March 18. The police have added more personnel and set up a special helpline (9432610039) to help examinees. This follows the Students' Federation of India (SFI) urging a college strike, calling for the resignation of Education Minister Bratya Basu after the recent events at Jadavpur University. The authorities have maintained that protests will not be allowed to interfere with the exam process, with Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma appealing for restraint from protesters.
