Fitch Ratings Warns Middle East Conflict Strains APAC Corporates’ Credit Conditions

In its latest “APAC Corporates Credit Trends Monitor,” Fitch highlights how geopolitical tensions are reshaping financial conditions across Asia-Pacific. While India and Southeast Asia show resilience, other economies face mounting challenges from higher costs and weaker global trade flows.  

Impact Of Middle East Conflict  

The conflict has driven up energy prices, disrupted shipping routes, and dampened consumer sentiment. Fitch warns that corporates may continue to feel the effects even after the conflict subsides, as energy markets and supply chains take time to stabilize.  

Sectoral Pressures  

Industries most exposed include refiners, chemicals, building materials, and automotive. Chinese corporates face added stress from weak domestic demand and excess capacity, while India and Southeast Asia benefit from stronger consumption and infrastructure spending.  

Credit Outlook  

Despite challenges, Fitch expects EBITDA margins for APAC corporates to remain above 15% in 2026. However, free cash flow margins are projected to stay negative, with elevated energy costs posing the biggest risk to recovery.
