Flying into the Future: CEO Campbell Wilson's Revolutionary Vision for Air India

Air India CEO Campbell Wilson said that the airline intends to complete retrofitting its vintage wide-body jets by mid-2027. The ambitious effort, under a $400 million retrofit program, will see 40 Boeing 787 and 777 planes retrofitted. Supply chain constraints and the availability of how many planes can be taken out of service simultaneously do not deter the airline from undertaking its modernization program. Wilson emphasized that refit is the airline's priority, with the first Boeing 787 being refitted next month. The CEO also said there are plans to introduce first-class cabins on select new planes, turning Air India into a Tier 1 airline. The development comes as Air India continues with its transformation under Tata Group ownership, juggling fleet upgrades against operational challenges in a supply-constrained environment.
