In its biggest move to add more security to commuters and avert ticketing fraud, the West Central Railway (WCR) has launched the mAadhaar mobile app to verify travelers in real-time on its network. Launched on July 5, 2025, as part of a move to avert unauthorized travel and misuse of duplicate Aadhaar cards or tickets purchased in false names.
Key Highlights:
Digital Verification: Ticket examiners will now verify passengers' identities online through the mAadhaar application in order to make sure that only valid travelers board trains.
QR Code-Based Checks: It is easy to simply and effectively check Aadhaar cards through QR code scanning, reducing delays and errors to a large extent.
Prevention of Fraud: The system is also designed for preventing and deterring fraudulent use of fake Aadhaar cards and impersonation, which is increasingly becoming a trend in rail transport.
Ministry Order: The Railway Ministry has instructed all the zones to introduce real-time Aadhaar authentication and initiate stern action against employees found to be working under false identities.
Pilot in Bhopal: It has begun in the Bhopal region of the WCR and will be extended based on its success.
Convenience for Passengers: The electronic process is designed to reduce boarding time, eliminate paperwork, and optimize overall passenger convenience.
This move is a major step towards digitalization of Indian Railways, leveraging technology to ensure safer and more transparent travel for millions.
