On November 16, 2025, GAIL detected a gas leakage on their 18-inch pipeline that supplies 2-3 MMSCMD gas from ONGCL Trombay to Mahanagar Gas Limited’s (MGL) Wadala CGS, running through Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers (RCF), Trombay premises. The leakage was traced back to third-party damage by a contract agency conducting work in the RCF compound without notifying GAIL, near warning signs for the pipeline.

GAIL’s Operations & Maintenance team responded swiftly by isolating and depressurizing the pipeline to prevent further gas loss. Repairs involved cutting out the damaged section and installing a new pipe, with cold cutting, welding, radiography, and nitrogen purging performed to ensure safety and integrity. The repair finished on November 18, followed by phased gas-in operations.

Supply to MGL’s Wadala City Gate Station and affected CNG stations throughout Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai was normalized by late afternoon and is expected to stabilize fully shortly.
