Global Energy Transition Investments Surge, But $3.5 Trillion Annual Gap Remains

Global investment in the energy transition reached a record $2.1 trillion in 2024, up 11% from the previous year. However, this falls short of the $5.6 trillion annual investment needed by 2030 to achieve net-zero emissions. While 'mature' technologies like renewables and electric vehicles saw 14.7% growth, 'emerging' sectors such as hydrogen and carbon capture declined by 23%. The investment gap is most pronounced in electrified transport, which needs to quadruple to $3 trillion annually. Experts emphasize the urgent need for increased funding, particularly in developing economies, to meet climate goals.
