The Indian government has eased petroleum safety and licensing norms to accelerate kerosene distribution. With LPG supplies disrupted due to geopolitical tensions, the move allows select petrol pumps across 21 states and Union Territories to store and dispense kerosene directly to households for cooking and lighting needs.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas confirmed emergency relaxations to ensure uninterrupted kerosene access. Public sector oil companies will operate designated outlets, enabling faster distribution to households affected by LPG shortages.
Emergency Distribution Measures
Under the revised norms, petrol pumps run by Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum can store up to 5,000 litres of kerosene. Each district may designate up to two outlets, ensuring rural and semi-urban families have reliable access to essential fuel.
Temporary Relief For Households
The relaxations will remain valid for 60 days or until further orders. Officials emphasized that this is a temporary measure to stabilize supply chains and protect vulnerable communities until LPG availability improves.
